A woman enjoying a quiet dip in a local river was abruptly interrupted by a line of soldiers with guns passing by. Laura Truelove, 29, is an avid wild swimmer and loves to swim in the Brecon Beacons National Park due to its peacefulness. But last month, as she was enjoying an after-walk swim in the River Tawe, several armed soldiers in military suits unexpectedly turned up. Neither Laura or the soldiers noticed one another until they were already on top of each other. After a quick smile and nod from the first soldier, the rest of them followed swiftly and quietly, leaving Laura to enjoy her swim. The area is known to host army training exercises, with the Brecon Barracks very close to the national park. Laura, a social media manager from near Swansea, Wales, said: "It was a bit of a surprise because I hadn't noticed them and they hadn't noticed me. "I was behind a dip in the valley so it would have been difficult to spot me. "It felt quite strange suddenly seeing these men carrying guns but I've seen training exercises happening before, so I quickly figured out what was happening. "The first guy came down, noticed me and shot me a little smile and chuckled to himself." Laura, who has been wild swimming for five years, has never had an experience quite like this before. She said: "I've definitely seen soldiers around while walking before, but never during a swim. "The safety element of wild swimming is super important, which is why I suggest beginners go with someone else if they're concerned. "However, I've been swimming in this area for a long time and feel very comfortable knowing where to dip."
